“Measure twice, cut once”…while measuring is extremely important, having the right cutting tool for the task is a must. It makes the job a lot easier. Having good, sharp cutting instruments will make all the difference in the world!
Here are some of my favorite things!
For starters, I love the Olfa Quick Change Rotary Cutter–the 45mm is the one I use most of the time. It is great for left or right handed quilters. I admit, I have a hard time getting my rotary cutter back together when I change my blade. The Quick Change Cutter is so simple I can’t go wrong.
Of course you need to have refill blades on hand.
If I have a lot of large pieces or strips to cut I like to use the Fiskars Cutter & Ruler Combo. This is so easy on the hands! You just push and blade glides along and cuts the fabric.
I do love the look of the new Fiskars designer cutter and scissors that match each other. My daughter is just starting out and would love these.
I am never happy with my circles when I trace and cut them out with scissors. I cut a perfect circle every time when I use a circle cutter. It works on fabric with or without fusible on the back. I also use it on fusible and freezer paper.
For little circles I love the Olfa Rotary Circle Cutter. It cuts circles from 1-7/8” to 8- ½”. It takes a little practice and you’ll be cutting like a pro.
The TrueCut 360° Precision Circle Cutter is nice too. It cuts from 2” all the way to 12”.
When I make a mistake, I like a seam ripper with a fine sharp point and comfortable to hold. I use this tool a LOT!
When I am on the go, whether it is to my quilt group, a car trip or on a plane I like the Blunt End Safety Scissors. It seems like I always misplace the cover or poke myself with my sharp little scissors.
Last but not least if I want to give one of my special friends a present I think the Klasse Scissor & Tape Measure gift set would make a beautiful gift.
