My choice for the Plethora of Pillows is a very simple pillow. I needed something I could sew up quickly and be done with it! No pattern was used here, I just made up my own. I decided on making two, one for each of my mini schnauzers for their trip to the spa. Actually, it’s the groomer but I won’t tell them that.
With so many great fabrics to choose from I finally decided on MaryJo’s Sewing Room collection. While trying to choose which prints to use, Lacy dropped in to give me a helping paw. Coco had no opinion, she’d rather be napping.
Now that the fabric has been chosen, thanks to Lacy, it’s time to sew. For the front, one rectangle of the main fabric was cut at 11-1/2″ x 15-1/2″ and quilted, then trimmed to 11″ x 15″. For the back, one rectangle of the same fabric was cut at 11″ x 15″. From the contrasting fabric I cut two 3-1/4″ x WOF strips for the binding.
The front and back were placed wrong sides together and stitched using a 1/2″ seam allowance while sewing the binding on at the same time. I left a 6″ opening for stuffing. Using our Hobbs Polyester Fiberfill, I then slightly stuffed the pillow because I didn’t want it too firm – the dogs like their pillows soft and cushy! I then pinned the opening and binding and finished sewing. The binding was turned to the back and hand stitched down. The finished pillow measures 10″ x 14″. Easy!
You could make yours any size, shape and firmness.
Now it’s time to go to the spa, how sweet is that!
