Sue’s going away pillow

Here at Connecting Threads we have a free box that is usually full of unwanted items such as fabrics, books, patterns, and partially finished projects that are added by our staff after a good cleaning of our sewing rooms. Cool, huh? Earlier this year our fabulous pattern designer Sue had done a good cleaning out of her sewing room and “come and get it!” was her announcement. I was fortunate to get a block of the month quilt with partially sewn blocks and all the material to complete the whole quilt. When I heard that Sue was leaving us to move to Australia, I wanted to make her something to remember us by. I remembered her project that I had picked up several months back and started going through it. I found some blocks that I thought would be good to work with; two of the blocks were appliquéd petals and one was a nine patch star (a variation of a friendship star). I decided that I would make a pillow using Sue’s pattern, Sunflower Pillows (coming out in the near future!), and have all of us in the department sign our names on the petals. I used the ¡Fiesta! fabric line which worked perfectly with the already pieced blocks. I had to alter the pattern slightly since the finished blocks I had were 6-1/2” and the pieced blocks in the pattern were 5-1/2”—no big deal, really simple to adjust. It turned out really nice and I think Sue loved it! We will miss Sue, she has been a real joy to work with and an inspiration to us all. All the best to you, Sue, and your family, as you settle back into your homeland of Australia. Today we had lunch with her and her family, gave her the pillow, and said our goodbyes. (Until we all visit!)

Awwwe shucks guys you are going to make me cry again…that’s not cool. I love the pillow, Little David has tried to claim it as his own, but it’s mine all mine!
Australia is fine, okay a little too hot. We are gradually finding our way, organizing phones and internet so we will be in contact. So far we have bought a car, espresso machine and a toaster!
I cannot wait for all my stuff to arrive so I can get back to sewing and designing.
Thank you everyone, it was an exciting adventure working with you all and being part of the Connecting Threads family. I’ve found a quilt group to join, now I just have to break it to the husband that their meetings go all day!!!!
    Cheers Sue
