Sleep Matt II in Bookish

Hello everyone, my name is Kimberly Purdy, and my company Lilac Cottage Designs is a new independent designer with Connecting Threads.  The picture is of one of my designs, the Sleep Mat II.  It’s a blanket, mat, and pillow all in one.  It rolls up so that you can quickly take it with you for daycare or sleepovers.  The quilt is only attached on one side, so you don’t have to worry about your little ones getting tangled up in it.  It’s designed with children ages 1-4 in mind.  I used the fabric line “Bookish” from Connecting Threads for the sample.  As you can see from the photo, the fabrics come in lots of different colors, so there is plenty to choose from.  All of them have a book or library theme, so it’s great for encouraging young readers.
I am an interior designer by training, but I have been sewing since I was 8.  I started sewing mostly apparel, and grew into home decorating.  At 16 I started my first quilt, with only the vaguest idea of how a quilt is created.  Since then, I have designed and completed dozens.  Most of which have been given away as gifts.  I turned my hand to designing after creating the Sleep Mat while my kids were in daycare.  I got so many requests to make them for people that I set out to write down the instructions so others could make them, and as they say, the rest is history.

Connecting Threads carries one of my other projects, the Quilter’s Holdall.  It’s a great little storage box.  It’s a soft sided fabric box with a vinyl top and zipper access.  It’s designed out of two contrasting fabrics, and is completely lined.  Holdalls are wonderful for sorting and storing your fat quarters all the way up to full yard pieces.  I like to make them out of the fabrics I intend to store in them, so I make one out of batiks to store my batiks, one out of Holiday fabric to store those and so on.  And don’t let the zipper intimidate you.  The instructions will make it easy, and you shouldn’t have a problem.
If you ever have any questions about a pattern, it’s easy to reach me.  You can access me via email or phone from my website:  Try out the new patterns from Connecting Threads, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.  Happy Stitchin’!

Nice mat! I’ve made several for my grandkids & they love ’em! Mine haven’t had the quilt attached though…just the mat with the “built in” pillow. Thanks for sharing this one.
