My quilt by Jenni Calo

One of my closest friends in New York is having a baby and this was the perfect opportunity to make up a baby quilt for her.  I am still such a novice at quilting, but really wanted to make her something that came from the heart and that she can keep for a long time.

Also I was super excited to make her something using my latest collection Ella’s Wishes. She’s having a girl, and she loves pink, so this was just perfect to use! I chose the Coming Soon quilt pattern that we featured in the last catalog for Birchtree Lane, I thought this was perfect. Perfect size, modern design, something I could manage. When I came to the “quilting” part, I decided to do a plaid/grid like pattern and I’m so happy with how it worked with the quilt design. As my friend Jenna at work said, it encompassed all three elements; I designed the fabric, I sewed it and I quilted it. I am so happy with it, I just love it and I can’t wait for her to get it!!! I only wish I were there to see her open it.

**Update! Her baby shower was this weekend—here’s the photo of her opening the gift.

Jenni, you did a great job and I think she likes it. I would have to go by the expression on her face that it was a success. Congratulations!!!

The fabrics are perfect…the quilt is perfect! Nice work. Not only does your friend look thrilled, but look at the faces of the people around her! Gals will start having babies just to get one of your quilts ;-D

Jenni, you are really a quilter now! I’ve made this pattern twice and love it!

Jenni – I love your quilt, especially the quilting. The plaid pattern just sets off the design so well.
Did you use tape to mark the lines? I’m a beginning quilter too and I can only quilt using straight lines but I’m never sure how to mark the quilt for quilting.

Thanks for all the lovely comments!!
Linda, nope, didn’t use tape, totally did it by eye. I just arbitrarily spaced out each row of stitching. I’m not very good at following rules, ha ha. The lines aren’t perfect, but luckily you can’t really tell. Hee.
Yeah, I think this quilt pattern is a keeper for sure!!

This is great…quilts will stay forever, there is something about them, they never go out of style. Don’t forget that amazing quilt and pillow you did for Anton! He always sleeps with it and talks on and on about a certain ginger haired vixen named Auntie Jenni!

Great quilt…my sister is looking for the following Ella’s Wishes by Jenni Calo for Connecting Threads line in the teal color palette. I need at least 2 1/2 of the same pattern for a border and then 6 or so fat quarters or 1 1/2 yards to finish a queen size quilt. Do you have any that you would sell?
