I wanted to share a couple of blocks from a quilt I am making using our new collection, Mum’s Garden! I’ve been sewing my way through the blocks in the Ultimate Quilt Block Collection by Lynne Goldsworthy. I decided to start with the first blocks in the book and then work my way through in order.
Each block has two versions, the original and a remix of the same block. The first block is called Floor Tiles. I chose to work with Mums Delight II (I love this focal and was excited to fussy cut the flowers for my block’s center), Embellished Gingham, and Beatrix II. I already have a large amount of white on white fabric in my stash so that’s what I decided to use for all my backgrounds.
The pattern called for slightly oversized half-square triangle blocks, which meant I got to use one of my favorite tools, the Bloc-Loc Ruler to trim them down. And here is my completed block…
For the remix of the block, the center layout has been changed to make a square on point in the center. For this block, I chose to work with Stipple, Elizabeth II, Houndstooth, and a discontinued white on white print from my stash.
Because I want the look of a sampler quilt when completed, I’ll be using prints from Mum’s Garden for my entire project. I can’t wait to get started on the next section which is all about paper piecing! Stay tuned for more posts as I sew my way through the blocks in the book.
