The lovely Cottage Grove collection by Connecting Threads is here! The CT staff have been busy designing, selecting, and sewing projects to highlight this whimsical garden collection – and now we get to share them with you. We are so excited!
The color palette is luscious and includes shades of lavender, violet, green, periwinkle, and cream. The focal is a stylized, packed floral with cottages nestled among the botanical abundance. Our fabric designer, Winthur Sempliner, says the inspiration for this painterly garden collection was a vintage watercolor from the 1940s (purchased artwork).
As you can see, her version looks quite different. Winthur went with a lavender & spring green colorway, a combination that naturally evokes spring and has proved to be very popular with our customers.
A second purchased vintage print (a charming tossed focal with flowers, dragonflies, and butterflies) inspired the secondary focal for Cottage Grove.
She recolored it and added details and personal touches to provide a secondary focal.
And now – Cottage Grove Kits!
Mari Martin designed Forget-Me-Nots, which is 66-1/2″ x 80-1/2″ in size. This beginner quilt uses most of the collection, goes together easily, and looks great! The collection’s gradations of color value shine in this classic Rail Fence quilt.
Looking for something that works up a bit faster? A smaller project by Mari is Grandma’s Cottage Table Runner, 1-21/2″ x 42-1/2″. The light, medium, and dark color values in the border add a dimensional effect. Plus, table runners are quick way to instantly update your home for spring!
If you love table topper kits, I recolored the best-selling, 22″ square Vintage Violets pattern from our archives. It is perfect for this collection and includes piecing and applique.
We hope you are as excited by the Cottage Grove collection as we are. Happy quilting!
