Highlights from A Year In Stitches

I have a confession to make. I’m a Year In Stitches lurker. Those of you who are members of Quilt With Us, our online quilting community, are probably already familar with Year In Stitches. Year In Stitches is our Block of the Month quilt along. The members of this group are making a Calendar Keeper wall hanging along with a detachable decorative block for each month. They started in February with the Calendar Keeper pattern and March’s block. They’re making blocks one month ahead, so if you want to join the fun, you have all month to sew, and then the next month you get to enjoy it! I am not sewing the blocks myself, but I’ve been watching their progress, and I am in awe of all the beautiful blocks they’ve made so far.

March’s block was released February first. It’s a super cute paper pieced daffodil designed by Sue. Download the pattern for only 99 cents.

I haven’t tried paper piecing myself, but Teri had never done it before she made her block, and look how great it turned out in those fabrics from the Cheep Talk collection!

Lynne Wurzer had the brilliant idea to put foamboard inside her keeper and close it with velcro so she can remove the foamcore when she wants to throw it in the wash. Don’t you love the way the colors in the calendar keeper show off those bright blues and greens in the block?

Anne’s daffodil looks like it’s popping up from a field of snow. It makes me feel hopeful, surely spring must be just around the corner!

Anne Grimm– WA’s keeper and March block look so clean and professional, I’m impressed that she machine quilted it herself.

Linda Froggie Quilter’s March block has a fun, scrappy look. Every day of the year is a Quilty Day now with her calendar keeper.

Jan from Iowa/Arkansas did a wonderful job mixing different batik fabrics to create this gorgeous calendar keeper and March block.

Mich/TN’s calendar keeper is so colorful it makes her March block really pop.

I hope everyone keeps up the great work. I’ll be hanging out in the forum and cheering you on, I can’t wait to show off my favorite April blocks in just a couple of weeks!

If you want to sew along, it’s not too late to join. The patterns for the keeper, March, and April blocks are available as downloads anytime, and the pattern for the May block will be unveiled in just a few weeks. New patterns come out the first Tuesday of each month as a new 99 cent PDF download. It’s free and easy to join the group here. Happy quilting!
