Gifty Galore 2011: Nativity Pin

Today’s project comes from the book Seasons & Reasons to Celebrate.

I collect nativities and thought the one in this book was adorable. Then the idea to take Jesus in the manger and make a Christmas pin popped into my head!

I took the pattern sheet and reduced the image to 60%.  Then it was just a matter of gathering some scraps and fusible web for all the pieces.  I highly recommend the Appliqué Pressing Sheet for layering the appliqué pieces. Once I had them all put together I gently peeled them off the pressing sheet as one piece and built my sandwich:  a fabric scrap for backing, then fusible fleece, and topped off with the nativity appliqué. I again used the appliqué pressing sheet to protect my iron as I bonded my sandwich together. Next I (carefully) cut around the shape and did blanket stitching by hand using #12 perle cotton. Sew on a pin back and you’re done.  I also thought these would be cute tree ornaments.

Have fun coming up with other ideas.
