There aren’t many things about my job that I love more than meeting some of the amazingly talented authors and bloggers out there. Melissa Lunden is no exception! When her new book came across my desk, I knew that I needed to meet this incredibly talented person! Her design aesthetic is chic, classic, and, in my opinion, not so modern that it can’t work in most homes. I found her quilts to be stunning, and some of her smaller projects to have just the right amount of fun and flair to them.
My associate, Dawn, later informed me that not only did Melissa write this fantastic book, she also has a website where she blogs and sells some delicious patterns! Check it out here: www.lundendesigns.com
When I reached out to Melissa about her new book, I immediately knew that she and I would be friends. She is so gracious, humble, and totally excited about this new step in her career! I wanted you all to get to know a little more about Melissa, so I asked her to send over a little bio about how she got her start in quilting, and what inspires her when she designs. Here’s what she sent…
Hello! I am so excited to introduce myself and to talk a little about my book, Sew A Modern Home. In addition to my book, I have a sewing pattern company called Lunden Designs. I grew up sewing but really fell back in love with it hard after a trip to a fabric store in San Francisco over a decade ago. You know you have a problem when you are buying fabrics when you don’t even own a sewing machine. ; ) Fabrics are one of my biggest inspirations. I love combining them and am always designing in a way to show the prints off.
The idea for this book really came from wanting to decorate my home and make it a place that is full of personalized items made with beautiful fabrics and colors. And like most quilters and sewists, I am also constantly making presents for family and friends. I wanted this book to be full of projects that would be perfect for anyone’s home, whether the reader was making something to keep or a special gift. The projects purposefully range in size and complexity so the reader has plenty of options.
Another major inspiration for this book and the projects is my daughter, Lila. I love making her stuffed animals, bedding and clothes. My mother made all of my Halloween costumes when I was child and I love continuing the tradition of mom-made projects. Hearing her tell people with pride that her mom made her something makes my heart pretty happy.
Thank you so much for allowing me to introduce myself and to share my book with you! I hope it is inspiring and leads to lots and lots of gorgeous projects.
She’s so delightful!
