I'm a decorative artist/designer (painter), have published 10 Decorative Painting Books, with the most recent, Tuttles Touches, Vol. 6 making it's debut at www.artistsclub.com. Many of my designs have quilt themes and details. Connecting Threads' Snow Days fabric line was my design, and I'm working on a second line for next year! I was a quilter long before I picked up a paintbrush. I do pattern testing as well as sew samples for Connecting Threads.

    The Pine Grove Table Topper

I made the Pine Grove Table Topper out of the Pineberry Collection.  It’s a great table topper, I made it in two early morning sewing sessions before coming to work.  I even quilted it myself!  It will be a gift to our kids who will be celebrating their first Christmas in their new home.  I know they’ll love it.  Who would you make this beautiful piece for?

The Heartfelt Quilted Bag in Bits & Bobbins

I made the Heartfelt Quilted bag for the catalog - around here, I'm known as the "bag lady" because I do make a lot of sample bags.  This bag is nice and roomy, has pockets inside for all of your necessities, and the handles are long enough to put over your shoulder for easy carrying.  This tote has become my go-to bag because it has so much storage room but yet the pockets inside keep me organized.

Bloomin’ Patches Wall Hanging in Jubilee Garden

What a thrill to have another line of fabric with my name on the selvege!  Jubilee Garden sprung from my love of anything Americana.  The flowers on this wall hanging were inspired by a design in my second decorative painting book, Tuttles Touches, Vol. 2.  Then I was asked if I wanted to design a wall hanging using the Jubilee Garden fabrics - well, heck yes!  It sounded like a fun idea, but it wouldn't have happened without Sharla's knowledge of pattern writing.  She took my colored pencil drawing and made it a pattern.  After the pattern was tested, I got to make the sample for the catalog.  The longarm quilter did an amazing job, and I love the finished project.

Contest Closed! Book Giveaway – Scrap Quilts Go Country

This contest is officially closed!  Thanks so much to everyone who participated.  To find out who won, click here: WINNERS If you’re a quilter, chances are you’ve got scraps.  If you’ve got scraps, you’re likely thinking about what you can do with them.   Lucky for you, we found dozens of options in a wonderful book by Deanne Eisenman called Scrap Quilts go Country. This book is jam-packed with great ideas for using scrap pieces in any size, and although all of the quilts are shown in country themed fabrics, why wouldn’t they be just as fun in something bright -- or even in batiks?   And, if you’re a new quilter and don’t have that stash of scraps yet, there are cutting instructions for using precuts as well.

    Inspiration for March’s new lines

I recently completed three very fun projects with three of our new fabric collections: Zippee, Sunday Afternoon and Abigail's Garden. First up were the Snuggle Up Pillowcases in Zippee.  I chose to sew these pillowcases because the fabric was so bright and fun, and the pillowcases were different than any I had sewn in the past.  The pattern was easy to follow, and the dimensional flowers just add a punch of fun!

Family Estate Wall Hanging in Canterbury by MaryJo

Months ago I volunteered to do a project for January.  Sounded like a good idea at the time, and since I had time off during the holidays, it would be a fun after Christmas project.  I had taken the samplers and scraps from the quilts sewn from the Canterbury collection home, and there they sat. As the date got closer, I really had to get moving on it.  I had selected one project, but due to a number of things, I had to make a change at sort of the last minute.   Then along came a book titled Friendship Strips & Scraps by Edyta Sitar.  It was the perfect match for the bag of scraps I had waiting for me.  I knew I didn’t want to make a big quilt, but when I saw the wall hanging with the scrappy strip house & appliqué, that was IT!

    Pineapple Pin Cushion

OK, I totally spaced the need to blog about the Pineapple Pin Cushion that Mari designed for me! I just love anything pineapple, and have many in a fun collection. The day Mari was making decisions on the pin cushions she was going to include in the Gifty Galore selection, I told her they were all great, but she needed to come up with a pineapple. By the end of the day, there was indeed a pineapple in the group! ...

Update on Beach Fun w/ Stash Builder Sampler

I took a couple photos of the beach fun projects in their new home at the beach. I decided that the placemats were safer on the end tables and in the center of the table than letting people put plates on them and eat. Then the table runner was just what was needed on the coffee table under the big bowl of shells.

    Weekly Gifty Project

This week’s Gifty Project is the Santa Thread Catcher & Pin Cushion from Nancy Halvorsen’s book, Sew Necessary and I used fabrics from Wrap it Up I took a little artistic license by painting on the eyes instead of using buttons, and using 2 colors for the peppermint. There’s a cute little triangle pocket on the inside and plenty of room on the pin cushion for lots of pins!
