Tufted Floor Pillow
9.9.2013

The trend of floor pillows has been around for a while, and I have always wanted one.  Whether it be for me to lounge on or for my frenchie to rest his head on, I thought this was a really fun project to make and own.  In Patchwork Pillows by Lindsey Murray McClelland I chose the “Tufted Floor Pillow” by Carol Zentgraf to make.  I was drawn to the simplicity of design yet interesting details, plus..I’m a sucker for home décor that is tufted.

It was hard to choose a fabric, but I decided on using two sku’s from our latest Batik collection.  I am not a Batik person normally, but I absolutely loved the colors of Fall Leaves “Golden Cedar” & “Blue Cypress”.  The chartreuse green and deep teal colors compliment one another so well, not to mention compliment my vintage chartreuse ceramics in my home.

I must tell you, I goofed.  I’m really bad about following directions, don’t ask me why, but I am.  So I was at the point of sewing the outside panel together to the side band when I came across the issue of the side band being too short.  I was confused as to why this was and went back to the pattern and re-read it again.  Alas, I found my error.  In the beginning where you create the triangle template, I misread and didn’t cut the triangle down in half….so my pillow in essence is double the size it’s supposed to be.  BUT I didn’t fret, but rather thought this may be better to make into a floor pillow that’s even that more comfortable and cozy that could also double as a dog bed.  But who and I kidding, if there’s a pillow on the floor, it’s going to only be a dog pillow as Pasquale will claim his territory.  So, to solve the problem of the short sides, I still had plenty of fabric, but I just needed to be crafty with it.  So instead of the side band being all one color, I color blocked it.  Half the distance is in Teal the other half in Chartreuse.  And quite honestly I think my mistake made for a really cute alternative.

So, after  I “corrected” my mistake, I finished assembling the pillow and I’m so happy with how it turned out!!

I’d say Pasquale is very pleased with this floor pillow too!
