Lee Heinrich of Milwaukee, WI and her design Flourish:

Alexandra Coyle of Baltimore, MD and her design Wildblooms:

Leslie Walton of Lancaster, PA and her design Happiness:

and Virginia Odien of Riverside, CA and her design Laundry Day:

Congratulations, ladies! And a big thank you to all of the talented people who entered our contest. We were amazed by the number of wonderful entries, and it was a very tough competition. Now our finalists have a month to submit secondary designs to our Connecting Threads panel of judges, and then we have the hard choice of choosing the grand prize winner. Which design would you choose?

You know I kind of like Flourish the best. I think this could work well with different techniques used to make great looking

My vote went to Barnum and Johnny the Jackelope Brothers! It’s such a fun fabric and different that anything Connecting Threads has done before.

Loving Alexandra’s design ~ it’s really lovely, I’d love to pair it with a solid and make a bag! Is it going to be available soon?

My top choice is Laundry Day, but I think I voted for most of the others as well. My second choice would be Happiness and I can see how this could have many secondary designs to make a nice line.

  12. Leslie Says:
    09/02/2011 9:00 am

Laundry Day, it’s fun, different, totally usable and doesn’t look like something I can already find in a fabric store.

  13. Teri Kincaid Baldwin Says:
    09/02/2011 9:16 am

I voted for Laundry Day! The others were nice too, but I liked Laundry most because it was different. It wasn’t flowers, it wasn’t circles or other patterns, it was exactly what the title said it was – Laundry Day!!

  14. Elaine Says:
    09/02/2011 9:23 am

I like 2 of these: Wildblooms and Happiness. I kept looking at which ones I would buy and USE. I like the colors in Wildblooms–NO PINK but I like the simple design of Happiness. Happiness looks like it would work with some of the reproductive fabrics that I already own.

  15. Susan Says:
    09/02/2011 9:47 am

Laundry Day is the most origional and would add so much charm to any quilting project.

  16. Becca Says:
    09/02/2011 9:54 am

Laundry Day hands down!! I agree with Teri, the others are nice but there is something so unique and fun about Laundry Day. LOVE IT!!! :D

  17. Rhonda Says:
    09/02/2011 10:14 am

Barnum and Johnny is definitely my top choice. The jackelopes are super cute, and it looks like a fun color palette to work with.

  18. Sammy Says:
    09/02/2011 10:46 am

This is the only time I’ll ever say it: I love Laundry Day! The design, let’s be clear. Not the activity itself. :D

  19. Lisa Says:
    09/02/2011 11:42 am

Laundry Day is my fave and is the one I voted for. It is unique and original, great colors and witty, fun design

  24. Mona Says:

  25. Victoria Says:
    09/02/2011 6:40 pm

“Laundry Day”, by Virginia Odien, is definitely my favorite, fresh and different. I can imagine so many uses for it.
There are so many flowered fabrics already available; and I can’t imagine how the jackalopes got so many votes, with all the wonderful entries I saw when I voted; I would have thought the audience for something so narrowly themed was pretty small.

I vote for Leslie Walton of Lancaster, PA and her design Happiness:
We need all the happiness we can get these days. I feel happy just looking at the design………….

I am torn between Happiness and Laundry Day for first choice; I just love both of them. But, I really like Wildblooms because of it’s colors and it could be fussy cut for several different looks. And,Flourish reminds me of a Retro 60’s design…yes it brings back memories. lol And my GK’s would love the Jackelope Brothers. It’s a shame there can only be one winner! Honestly, I don’t think I could choose just one until seeing the secondary designs.

  30. Karen Lange Says:
    09/03/2011 1:30 pm

I love both Happiness and Laundry Day. Also, Flourish is a favorite. I’d be so happy if you made these into fabrics!

  31. Marnie Says:

I love 2 designs Happiness and Laundry Day

  32. Shannon Says:
    09/04/2011 2:05 pm

Though I voted for 4/5 of these entries (not the animal one) I would like to see Happiness in a fabric line….in neutral and blue colourways….in addition to this one shown…I fine it peaceful and calm….and happy!

  33. Ruth Ann Nielson Says:
    09/04/2011 2:31 pm

I love Barnum and Johnny the Jackelope Brothers: It’s something I have never seen before and it feels very unique and fun. I would love to see it in all different colors and could see many ways to use it. What a fun design!

  34. Mary Says:
    09/07/2011 8:53 pm

Hello! Jackelope Bros is not only cute as hell, but it’s hilarious! Jackelopes! Ha! I would make tote bags, quilts, baby blankets….it excites me to think of the possibilities…

    09/25/2011 4:17 am

Congrats everyone. I would totally pick Flourish – it’s the only one that feels modern and fresh out of the bunch, though the others are lovely in their own ways.

  45. Amanda Says:
    09/25/2011 4:18 am

Laundry Day reminds me too much of a Heather Ross print in her new FFA3 collection, though it is pretty. Flourish is the one I love the best, but I like the Barnum and Johnny print, too.

  46. Sharon Says:
    09/25/2011 5:12 pm

Laundry day is fabulous! New and fresh and wonderfully smiley :D

  47. Dawn Says:
    09/25/2011 5:24 pm

    Laundry day for me.
By the way I am fairly sure that the Laundry designer had a similar design with leprchauns a long time ago, before the Heather Ross fabric

  48. Renny Says:
    09/25/2011 5:27 pm

Personally, ‘Laundry Day’ is much more appealing to my personal aesthetic, so although there’s another version out on the market, I’m really hoping this one gets printed, as I’d certainly buy this first! Well done!

  49. Toni Says:
    09/30/2011 4:38 pm

I would absolutely pick Flourish! Such a fun use of color, and I could see myself using it in a bunch of different ways, as opposed to a novelty print!

  50. Luci Says:
    09/30/2011 4:39 pm

Wow, some great entries! My favorite is Flourish, by a mile :) Congratulations everyone!

  51. Becky Says:
    09/30/2011 4:41 pm

I like all of them, but the only one I would actually use is probably Flourish – it’s the most “me”, style-wise, and I think a pretty versatile print and colorway, too.

  52. Janet Says:
    10/02/2011 4:51 am

I just saw the rest of the prints Lee designed (on her blog) to go with her Flourish print, and I have to say, you’d be crazy not to pick her!! I love that Flourish print, and the supporting designs she came up with are just stunning, I would buy every single one of them!

  53. Elizabeth Says:
    10/02/2011 4:52 am

    I would definitely pick Flourish!

  54. Dana Says:
    10/03/2011 10:52 am

LAUNDRY DAT!! Is the clear deisgn! Love the others, but this has ‘grab appeal!” I would purchase this w/out an project in mind!!

  55. Mary White Says:
    10/03/2011 11:08 am

Happiness is my first choice, closely followed by Flourish.

  56. Virginia Says:
    10/03/2011 12:06 pm

Laundry Day or Flourish, but I think I’m drawn to Laundry Day the most :)

  57. Rosanna Says:
    10/03/2011 12:14 pm

I just adore Laundry Days, so creative and unique. I have not seen anything on the market like it and because so different I think it would be a terrific seller. I think in different color waves it would have so many applications for Baby, Teens and adult quilts. I just saw the entire collection and it Rocks!

  58. Terri Hume Says:
    10/04/2011 4:57 pm

  59. Monika Kinner-Whalen Says:
    10/04/2011 9:22 pm

I love Laundry Day – wow, it’s so clean and pretty.

  60. Indianna Says:
    10/05/2011 12:30 am

I love Flourish – the others are cute as one of projects – but I think Flourish is more “useable” as a fabric line for lots and lots of quilts, bags stuffies etc

  61. Sue D Says:
    10/05/2011 10:39 am

All great designs — really looking forward to seeing the other prints in these collections. My favorites are Flourish and Happiness.

  66. Vickie Says:

Amanda (#45), Dawn (#47) is correct. Virginia had a similar laundry design that won a Spoonflower contest on March 16, 2011 the design is here:
This was long before Heather Ross came out with her design. It would be so unfair, and such a shame, if Virginia didn’t win because people thought she had copied Heather Ross. I also think the Virginia’s design is better balanced, and has a nicer flow across the fabric, than Heather’s.
I love the Laundry Day design, I think it is so original and fun. I really hope it wins!

  67. Rachel Says:
    10/09/2011 4:26 pm

I second the comment above. Virginia’s design ‘Laundry Day’ was inspired by her previous ‘leprechaun laundry day’ which disputes the accusations of her nicking any of HR’s ideas. That’s a tainted comment to put on a contest page anyway, especially when it’s false. It’s a great design anyway, and I hope she does very well!

  68. Anne Brown Says:
    10/11/2011 6:50 pm

    I love happiness!!

  69. Rachel B Says:
    10/12/2011 3:55 am

    Happiness is my choice too!
