Summer Fun Giveaway

As we enter into August, many of us begin to feel the end of summer approaching. Starting in September, the kids go back to school, the weather starts to cool off, and the number of family vacations dwindle down. Because we here at Connecting Threads aren’t quite ready for summer to be over, we are offering up a fun giveaway with some of our favorite bright and cheery items.

Many members of our staff have all fallen in love with a new book by Joanna Figueroa called With Fabric and Thread.

This book offers such a great variety of summer-inspired projects. Whether you’re looking for picnic blankets, a large tote to take to the beach, or even a cute lunch bag to store your snacks, you’ll find a pattern for every summer activity.

With a book called With Fabric & Thread, we felt it was only appropriate to offer some fabric and thread to go along with it. As some of you know, our headquarters are located in Vancouver, Washington; not far from the beautiful beaches on the Pacific coast. Because many of us escape to the oceanfront on warm summer days, it only makes sense that we offer an Oceanfront Fabric Sampler and a Beach House Thread Set to complement this book’s delightful projects.

One lucky winner will receive a copy of the With Fabric and Thread book, along with an Oceanfront Sampler and a Beach House Thread Set. Two runner up winners will receive their choice of a Oceanfront Sampler or the Beach House Thread Set.

For your chance to win, simple post a comment telling us what types of projects you like to work on most during the warm, summer months.

Rules: No purchase necessary. To be entered, you must leave a comment on this blog post by 11:59pm PST on August 6th. Winners will be selected and announced here on August 7th. One entry per person. Must provide a valid email address so that we can contact you if you win. Contest is limited to resident of the US and Canada only.

I usually take a short break from quilting this time of year; however, I broke my ankle in 3 places on 6/28 (had surgery on 7/3 – a plate with 10 screws on the outside of the ankle and two long screws on the inside) and was so bummed I couldn’t get to my sewing machine. However, hubby helped me rearrange the room and now I piece/machine quilt everyday for at least an hour. Have to wear a walking boot for at least another month so it’s wonderful to have something to work on. Can’t wait to win all this stuff to add to my stash :+)

The next in line has blue and white college colors, and I wanted to honor that in a subtle way. I purchased the backing fabric from you last month on clearance, just before it sold out, and the sampler is actually in my wish list!

Works in progress are: a table runner for my best friend, a quilt for my daughter’s bed, two stuffed dogs for twins who just turned 1 and a messenger bag for my granddaughters laptop. She will be starting colleg in August.

This summer I made a wall quilt from men’s shirts ( hearts in squares ), a baby quilt, and now I am working on a summer challenge for our guild. We had to pick a box out of a bag and I ended up with a lemon tea box.. I love to create so this was interesting for me. We are to only use the colors on the box we chose. And it was a challenge as I struggled to find two of the colors. Also the other guild that I am a member of challenged us to make a quilt project from a meter of ugly fabric.. I lucked out with getting ugly fabric that matched the color of my tea box.. So this is what I am making with it.. I am making a wall hanging quilt. I appliqué a lemon tree with lemons on it, a white picket fence and flowers along the fence. I embroidered this saying ” When Life Hands You Lemons…” the ugly fabric which is not that ugly is the border. I am now hand quilting it, then the binding, then I’m finished..

Since we’re really busy in the summer growing vegetables for our local Farmers’ Markets, there isn’t a lot of time left to sew until the snow flies. So I spend my summer thinking about the projects I want to do after the markets are over.

    08/01/2012 7:13 am

During the summer months I usually am doing a lot more piecing on the machine, or currently I am working on some applique blocks. I do wish I lived closer to a beach, even a lake side beach would do.

This book and the fabrics and thread look amazing. Thanks to CT for providing the best!

  217. Trudy Lindemann Says:

I spend alot of time sewing, making cards (since it is hot in Florida in summer) and planning projects ..have 5 baby/lap quilts to make and Christmas gifts to think about..
As a child we had great family BBQ’s with all our Aunts, Uncles and cousins, I always think of red and white checked fabric when remembering those days.. every summer I would go and visit my cousin at the beach, where her folks had a bungalow that probably started my love for blues and turquoise fabrics which I am still addicted too today, I am always on the look out for them…We went to Wales for vacation this summer and I went to 2 fabric shops and a quilt shop..surprise I found fabric that had to come home with me..

For summer, I like working on small, easy projects. So far this year, charity blocks, small drawstring bags, and even a few blocks for my Halloween quilt. Our weather and all of the abundant sunlight call me to be outside, where the sewing machine just isn’t welcome.

I just finished a fused applique hanging and have started a lap quilt in sunny, happy colors. I should be finishing a Christmas table topper held over from last year, but I’m just not in the mood for that in summer!

A litte of everything but seems I am always working on a gift for someone. Just last week finished a flannel backwoods quilt for my brother-in-law for his birthday. Seems wrong to be quilting flannel in July but it works and am sure he will love it. Happy Quilting.

Sorry, I forgot to say what I like to work on. I just made two doll quilts for my 6 year old granddaughter’s dolls and I also helped each of my granddaughters, ages 10, 8, and 6, paint blocks that I will set into quilts for them.

I like working on small projects such as desk items, scarves and clothing items. When it’s really hot, I like watching sewing videos in the coolest room of the house!

In the summer I like to sew kids’ quilts for charity. They are smaller and not so bulky to quilt during the hot summer days. Thanks for the great giveaway!

I’m always working on baby quilts, but have been inspired to make a picnic blanket this year. Also make a lot of baby slings outta batiks – beautiful & breathe well in the heat!

During the summer months ,because I am a teacher, it is my time to experiment with the difficult patterns that I don’t have time for during the school year!
