Some eye candy and inspiration for Friday

One of the hardest things about judging the Kit Builder contest was narrowing down so many fantastic entries. It was especially painful to see many of my personal favorites not get selected by the other judges (tastes do vary, and it was an electoral process afterall). So I’m going to showcase my personal selection here for you, so they get the attention they deserve. My taste leans toward the modern side of things, so if you like modern quilts, you’re in for a treat! You can click on each image to jump directly to the Kit Builder version and start playing around.

This black and brown version of The Big EZ 2 was submitted by Shellie M. I normally go for very colorful quilts, but this one was so striking, and I think it would make a great “man quilt”.

Another fabulous neutral quilt, The Flying Geese Quilt, submitted by Kelly K. These are so not my typical colors, but that’s probably why I’m so inspired by it. It reminds me of everything winter in the Northwest: overcast skies, perhaps some snow, evergreen trees, and little hints of color from the trunks of bare trees. It sounds like it would be bleak, but it makes me feel warm and cozy.

OK, this is the last neutral quilt, I swear! I keep saying that I like bright colorful quilts, and yet I surprise myself by picking neutrals. I think I love them because I never in a million years would have thought of the combination myself. This one in particular is quite unexpected. Would I have thought to pair gray, mint green, yellow, and brown solids? Nope! It is just perfect though, and it doesn’t even need a multicolored print to tie it together. This one was designed by Jennine D. Jennine, you are a genius!

How’s this one for color?! Stephanie E. designed this Playful Pinwheels baby quilt using our new Zippee collection, and it is irresistible. It has lots of great contrast, so baby will love it too.

Jane C. sent in this Sassy Pinwheels quilt using the Winter Fun focal in the big squares. I love that she bordered the squares with colored fabrics that pick up on the colors of the clothing worn by the critters. It’s so cheery and fun!

Last, but not least, is this Strippy Quilt using batiks, submitted by Sally H. We received many submissions that used batiks, but this one really caught my eye because of those red diamonds. It gives the quilt the right amount of “pop” and sparkle, which can be hard using all blendy batiks.

I don’t know about you guys, but I am inspired (and I look at quilts everyday, all day long, so that’s no small feat). Ladies, I salute you!
