Let me start this off by saying that when I get around snowmen I feel like the littlest girl on Despicable Me does about Unicorns. “It’s so FLUFFY I’m gonna die!” That is totally how I feel about Snowmen!

I can’t let a season go by without doing a few projects involving snowmen. I have hit an all-time high bar this year since I did end up getting a snowman that is around 15 feet tall in my office.
Oh how I do love him. He was a prop from Nancy Halverson’s Ho Ho Ho! Let It Snow themed booth at Quilt Market. Since smaller versions of him are featured in the book, I decided I needed a few mini snowmen like him for my tree. To me they fall into the “They are so cute I’m gonna die” category!
I thought about following the directions for a minute, then laughed. It was really good machine applique practice for me. I had only done it once on my machine before I tried these and I am really loving it. It goes so fast and it’s so uniform. It’s like a little applique fairy comes and magically my applique is done! After I finished appliqueing them, I ended up putting them together quilt-as-you-go style then used the button embellishments from the Ho Ho Ho! Let it Snow Button Pack for added quilting. Once I had the first one stitched, I had the bright idea to top stitch it instead of hand stitching it closed and I like the almost flange-like edge it makes.
On the second one, I did breakdown and whip stitch the hole closed so that they would both have different looks.
Since the applique pieces are so small I went hunting through my scraps and ended up using a little from each of these fabric collections: a smidgen from Winter’s Evening, a bit from Mix It Up!, a Quilter’s Candy or two, a dash of Nana’s Pantry, plus a few of Nancy’s own collection. To finish them off I just used a needle and embroidery floss to make a little loop for hanging them on the tree. I can’t even pretend I’m going to give them away as a gift, they are Mine All Mine. Well, until I get them home, then the cat will be trying to knock them off the tree, or Tyler will pull them off and bring them to me to show me how cute they are. Hmm maybe I should leave them at work where they will be safe… or will they?
