Color Theory Wrap-Up & Giveaway!

I hope that you’ve found some useful information over the past few weeks with our color theory posts. The most important part of using and understanding color is having fun with it! Remember that color theory isn’t a strict set of rules, but more of a guide to help you better your method of choosing and placing fabric in your quilts.

I wanted to leave you with a few resources of inspiration, fun, and reference. Two websites I actually just found myself that are great for color scheme inspiration are: www.ColourLovers.com and www.ColorSchemeDesigner.com. Don’t forget about our Design Table! It’s a great resource for comparing our fabrics online.

In our quilt books section on our website, we have a color theory section, which you can find here. It includes some great books, like the two below, to help get you thinking about quilting with color.

Patchwork Palette by Donna Lynn Thomas

Colorific by Pam Goecke Dinndorf

Now that the color theory lessons have come to an end, we wanted to give a little help to two lucky winners! Connecting Threads is giving away two separate prizes.

ONE LUCKY WINNER will receive an Ultimate 3-in-1 Color Tool, a Fons & Porter Design Wall, and a Swatch Buddies 24 card swatch fan.

ONE RUNNER-UP will receive their choice of a Quilter’s Candy Solids Fat Quarter Sampler (choose from: Berry Patch, Oceanfront, and Foliage).

To be entered to win, simply leave a comment below telling us what your favorite color scheme is. We will pick our winners on Monday, August 5th.

Rules: One entry per person. No purchase necessary. The color theory giveaway applies only to residents of the US and Canada. Comments must be made before 11:59pm PST on Sunday, August 4th. We will select our winners on Monday, August 5th and announce them shortly thereafter. Comments MUST be made on this blog post to be counted. Comments made on other blog entries will not be included for consideration. Winners will be selected randomly. You must meet the comment criteria to win. Good luck!

As a favorite I would have to go with analogous colors … there are the warm colors of Fall that draw me in, as well as the cool colors that help me escape to the beach.

Thanks for the interesting posts on color theory. I find that the projects I most often make tend to stay in one color area. I am having a lot of fun making traditional 2 color quilts right now. I love the look of super scrappy projects and I need to relax enough to jump right into something I normally don’t use.
My favorite of the three samplers would have to be Oceanfront. All three are lovely, though!

As for colors though, any and all colors work for me whether they are alone or together. After all when you look at nature ALL colors go with each other. There is not right or wrong combination. I made a blue and yellow quilt, bed skirt, and curtains, painted the walls a pale yellow and the unfinished wood furniture blue and decorated with blue and yellow plates.
