Great batik books – on sale now!

You may have noticed in our latest email that we have some great batik books on sale. In the past, we used to show you a few books that we enjoyed, but they didn't neccessarily coincide with the collection being featured in the email. Going forward, we have changed the way we do things a little bit. In every collection email, we will be featuring a book, or several books, that our staff has hand-selected as being great for the collection. We feel that this will create a more meaningful experience for you, and you can trust that the books you are buying are just right for your needs. This week's email features our new, limited edition summer batiks. *Swoon*. The books we selected for the email are a great mix of our staff's go-to batik resources. Even better, all of the books featured in this week's email are 40% off now through May 16th. The first book, Nature's Beauty in Applique, offers some incredible projects that were inspired by the author's stay in England. The table runners, placemats, and other fun projects use batik fabrics wonderfully, and really show off how batiks can make a project pop. Just look at this amazing wall hanging!

The Mainsail Set Quilt Kit

I love the ocean with its salty air, hearing the water slapping against the rocks and seagulls squawking.  Mainsail Set is reminiscent of all things sailing that takes me back to those lovely memories of visiting lighthouses and rides on sailboats.  There's nothing better than seeing the crisp whites, bold blues and true reds to solicit experiences at sea. Smooth Sailing is a group of beautiful fabrics depicting images of seafaring paraphernalia.  Sailboats, anchors, nautical stripes and water waves cover luscious fabric in colors of sea breeze blue, silver gray and cherry.

Our top ten books are on sale!

One day I was sitting down for a meeting with our fearless leader, Matt, and we were talking about sales and what quilters would want. He asked me if quilters would ever just want a handful of really good books at 50% off. My answer of course was “heck yeah!” and from that, this sale was born. I started with a poll of the Connecting Threads department to see what books they would recommend for quilters. From there, Judy and I tried to “spread the wealth” and get books that would suit beginners to experts and that touched on a variety of topics. The following is a list of our 10 best picks for every quilter. The best part? Each of these books is 50% off until April 4th!

Hello from maternity leave!

Melissa here...I'm just popping in today from maternity leave to say hi to you all and to share the baby news and some photos. My little guy decided to join us a fashionable nine days late on February 1. He was 9 pounds 7 ounces and 22 inches long. No one predicted he was that huge! We've named him James Elliot.  And what better way to share some baby photos than with him snuggled up in a handmade swaddling blanket... Like Katrina, I also sewed up the Swaddle Blanket from Fabric-by-Fabric One Yard Wonders using Wild Ones. I chose the blue elephant print before I knew how huge James would be--now it seems fitting, don't you think? ;)

It’s National Quilting Month!

Guess what – it’s our month! A whole month dedicated to the craft we love, quilting. When are you going to get a better excuse to set aside all of those other projects around the house and quilt instead? We hope that you will take advantage of this month’s celebration of quilting and make time to enjoy the craft we all adore so much. Pull out that project from the depths of your closet, put the binding on that quilt that has been hanging on your bannister for over a month, start something new, or even just spend some time cleaning up your sewing space so that you can get to your sewing machine! Take this month and instead of saying “I’ll get to this eventually”, put everything else aside and make the time now.

Take a stroll through the French Quarter with Tulane

Can you say Va Va Voom!?!  I absolutely love this Tulane collection with its bold greens and teals, mixed in with its darker, sophisticated blues and maroons. The prints in this collection remind us of taking an evening stroll down Bourbon Street -- they're just so elegant and romantic.  Not only does this collection look amazing in quilts, it's also a fantastic choice for curtains, throw pillows, kitchen accessories, and more.  The fabric works so beautifully with solids, adding just the right amount of flair to a pattern.  One of the kits that I love most in this collection is called Two Block Hop and it does an amazing job of blending the neutral fabrics with the bold and exciting prints in Tulane.
