January Little Quilt ~ Stage 3

My January Little Quilt is finished, binding and all! I just wanted to say a couple of things about the process that might be helpful. First, for this particular design more contrast is better. It is very easy to turn a HST to the wrong position and it happened to me. I believe had I used a higher contrasting color in my HSTs ...

January Little Quilt ~ Stage 2

This weekend I worked on my January Little Quilt and finished it minus the binding. I decided to accentuate the diagonal feature of the design by quilting it diagonally. I sure was tempted to cross-hatch the whole thing, but really love just the diagonal quilting now. The 4-Patches and Half Square Triangles (HSTs) were a snap to complete.

Yo-Yo Lollipop Christmas Ornament

While doing an internet search, I came across a fun idea on the Sew What’s New website for a Lollipop Christmas Ornament by Crouton Crackerjacks. To view the helpful video tutorial for making the ornament, click here. When you watch the video and read my steps below, you will see some slight variations, but the end result was similar – and very cute! When ...

Pin Cushion in a Cup

Okay – so making a pin cushion out of a cup is not a new idea. The reason for this one is, well – I found a cute (and free!) grey cup and saucer in the photo department’s prop give-away. Since my quilt studio is done in yellow and grey, it was logical that, all of a sudden, I needed a new pin cushion! I did an internet search for tutorials on making pin ...

Yo-Yo Ornaments

I enjoy making Yo-Yos, so I thought I would “whip up” some Yo-Yo ornaments I saw in a recent issue of Quilter’s World called Quilting for the Holidays. I decided to make two of each while I was at it so I could share some as gifts. Being an avid home cook as well as quilter, I spend a lot of time visiting recipe websites and cooking blogs. The reader’s comments consistently ...

Gifty Galore Project – 23

I like to save the very quick and easy projects for the tail end of the Gifty Galore season. It seems like a practical thing to do given how little time is left to make last minute gifts, right? So, here is the final project of the year, a lovely Tree Trivet from Stitching and Bacon. The project is made from the collection

Gifty Galore – Project 22

Photo Christmas Stocking by Sewing Sue It’s that time of year again and I just need to whip up a couple of Christmas Stockings. This year I’m putting photo frames on my stockings so there are no “I’ve been good all year and I got coal” incidents like last year! Sometimes Santa doesn’t take the time to read name tags, so I’m hoping a photo will do the trick. Plus we always have out of town visitors over Christmas, ...

Furoshiki Fun

As Christmas approaches, I have started thinking about wrapping presents with fabric. Each year we throw away so much wrapping paper – what a waste! Please join me as I learn about traditional Japanese wrapping cloths called furoshiki. Japanese Furoshiki For centuries, the Japanese used large squares of fabric called furoshiki (foo-roe-shkee) to bundle up their clothes at public baths or make bags for carrying things. The beautiful square cloths were ...

Gifty Galore – Project 21

Hi everyone! This week’s Gifty Galore project is the Circle Zip Earbud Pouch by Erin Erickson. Ta-da! I love them! The finished project. This project is perfect for anyone because those earbuds are always getting tangled, right? I know mine are. These little circle zip pouches can be made in a flash. I only wish I had sewn more of these at the same time! They make great stocking stuffers for ...
