The idea to create this mini wall hanging actually stems from a childhood memory. Each year around Christmas time, my sister and I would go over to my Aunts’ house where they would have us help decorate their tree, complete with a train and of course…a warm cup of hot cocoa! Embroidered Pillowcase

As a young girl I purchased pre-printed pillowcases from a local five-n-dime store. The images were sweet, quaint, and creatively stimulating. The colors were beautiful and the embroidery threads luscious. I enjoyed creating such a project in this FREE Emboidered Pillowcase Pattern with a bit more of a modern flair, and designed it with a holiday theme. It is time for Week 6 of our Connecting Threads 12 Weeks of Christmas celebration. That means we are halfway to the holidays, hopefully with some fun gifts already made! For my contribution this week, the Timeless Tote, I updated the appliqué on a tote bag from CT‘s past. I wanted a design, part traditional and part whimsical, to accompany our lovely Lasting Legacies collection.

Welcome to week 3 of the 12 Weeks of Christmas series! How are you progressing on the first two patterns?

My favorite thing about sewing gifts for others is how easily the items can be customized to meet the recipient’s tastes. When we first started talking about this 12 Weeks of Christmas project, my mind immediately went to making a pillow. My family has always been really big on holiday decorating, so a gift for my mom was the first thing that came to mind. After a while though, I realized that I had several friends who also enjoy holiday decorating. It occurred to me that whatever pattern I wrote needed to be flexible enough in its design that the end result would work for a number of different tastes and aesthetics. That, in a nutshell, was the most challenging part of the design process.
