Baby Quilt – Gingham Style!

A dear old friend of mine is about to have her first baby, and I’m beyond excited for her. It was a must that I make a baby quilt! Every time I make a gift, I really try to customize it to the person, their style, their aesthetic. She loves gingham, so I decided to make a quilt that looked like a giant gingham pattern. I used our solid black and white, but had to purchase a printed black and white gingham fabric elsewhere. I contemplated making the mid-tone color grey, but I chose to use a gingham print there and to use the same print as the backing and binding. If I’m going to go gingham, well, I’m gonna do it all the way!

She’s having a boy, and I felt black and white was a great color palette to do. I wanted to stay away from typical baby blue colors, because I wanted to choose something the baby could grow with and colors that reflected them better.

The quilt is 44” square, which is a great baby quilt size, not to mention a completely manageable size for me to make and quilt. As far as the quilting, I wanted to keep it really simple, so I just did a diagonal line through all the squares.

I’m so excited to send this off to her, and even more excited to meet the little guy sometime in the near future!

I heard back from my friend and she did indeed love it. She said before receiving the quilt, she was really hopeful I’d be making one…so she got her wish:)

Great job Jenni and it is so perfect for a baby boy! It’s really lovely that you kept the Mother’s tastes in mind when choosing the fabric, therefore, pleasing her. That is so dear of you! Darling story and so Miss Jenni!

I like this quilt. So far I think I’ve only made one baby quilt with the old traditional pink or blue. I’ve always picked a color I know they’re using or something that represents their style. I really like the gingham style. ;o)
