A dear old friend of mine is about to have her first baby, and I’m beyond excited for her. It was a must that I make a baby quilt! Every time I make a gift, I really try to customize it to the person, their style, their aesthetic. She loves gingham, so I decided to make a quilt that looked like a giant gingham pattern. I used our solid black and white, but had to purchase a printed black and white gingham fabric elsewhere. I contemplated making the mid-tone color grey, but I chose to use a gingham print there and to use the same print as the backing and binding. If I’m going to go gingham, well, I’m gonna do it all the way!
She’s having a boy, and I felt black and white was a great color palette to do. I wanted to stay away from typical baby blue colors, because I wanted to choose something the baby could grow with and colors that reflected them better.
The quilt is 44” square, which is a great baby quilt size, not to mention a completely manageable size for me to make and quilt. As far as the quilting, I wanted to keep it really simple, so I just did a diagonal line through all the squares.
I’m so excited to send this off to her, and even more excited to meet the little guy sometime in the near future!
