We are really excited to have recently introduced our new, super soft flannel collection: Sunny Day!
The Sunny Day collection is the first flannel line from Connecting Threads in over three years and it features a wide range of soft floral designs and cheery patterns. I had the opportunity to interview Darlene about this wonderful line and to find out more about her history with Connecting Threads.
What inspired the Sunny Day collection?
I wish I could say that I was inspired by something exotic that I saw, but it really was just some doodles I was doing and I thought they would work beautifully in a collection. Sunny Day is highly influenced by my love of folk art and it exudes a fun, light-hearted country flair.
What is your background with Crafts Americana and Connecting Threads?
I worked for Crafts Americana for nine years and designed many, many quilts during that time. Although I have a degree in secondary education, I have been designing and illustrating for years. I’ve even illustrated educational books and art projects for children. My first designing for Crafts Americana Group was for painting projects with the Artist’s Club, a sister company of Connecting Threads. Designing quilts was just a natural progression.
What are some things that you enjoy doing in your spare time that influence your work?
Currently, besides quilting, I enjoy painting – watercolors, mixed media and drawing. I get a sense of pride and excitement from coming up with something unique to anything else and I think that that definitely played a big part in Sunny Day’s designs.
We can’t get enough of this fabric and we’re sure you’re going to love it, too! A big thanks to Darlene for her help and insights.
