Confessions of a Broken Sewing Machine

My sewing machine is broken. I've "fixed" it twice now, but each time it breaks again. It's not allowing me to "fix" it this time. This leaves me with the biggest urge to sew that I've ever had. I think things always work like that. What "they" say is true: you don't know what you've got till it's gone. I could take it in to get fixed, but I'm stubborn and believe wholeheartedly that it will magically work one day. Please come back to me sewing machine… I miss you.Credit: Blueberry Park

Chevron Baby Quilt

If you are looking for a quick and easy baby quilt, this one is it.  The fabric requirements are very few and it goes together lickity-split.  Chevrons seem to have taken over the quilting world especially when it comes to children’s quilts.

Have You Tried Our Flannel?…Basics are on Sale!

I’m a flannel addict, er, lover. When I’m near it I can’t seem to keep my hands off the stuff; I’m compelled to run my hand over it, driven by the need to feel its snuggly softness. It’s as if there is some sort of tactile craving that gets fulfilled.

A Book Review and Giveaway: Vintage Quilt Revival

I love the concept behind the Vintage Quilt Revival book as well as the book itself. The three women who wrote this book all come from different places but are all connected through quilting. That in a nutshell is how a lot of us quilters came together; while we may not have anything else in common, including the quilts we choose to create, we all still have a love of quilts and quilting that unites us.

Return of the Snow People

What do you do when a friend gives you half their wool stash? Hummmm… I was over at Teri’s house when she decided to purge her wool stash. Now, this is not just a casual stash; it was a well-cherished, thought-out cache of woolie love. And, this is only half of it!

Floral Fiesta Embroidered Pouch

Mexican folk art was a huge inspiration for not only my Fiesta collection, but also for my embroidery pattern. I love folk art embroidered peasant blouses and dresses. I'm drawn to the vivid colors and symmetrical design elements. The motifs themselves are simple, but composed of so many different elements, makes such a bold and striking statement. The tightly packed embroidery and boldness of colors just make me smile.

Download Patterns for Fiesta’s Canvas!

Have you noticed Jenni’s fun and vibrant Fiesta fabric designs?  And did you happen to notice the 3 fabulous prints that come in CANVAS?   I love canvas because of its durability and it will give extra stability to any project.  Remember you can still use quilting cotton for the details (lining, binding, decorative details, etc.) and the canvas for those things that need just a little more stability.

Modern Mary Jane Bag in Canvas

Ok, I admit that I was a little nervous about sewing with canvas. I have never sewn with anything but flannel and flat cotton, well except that one time I tried to hem my jeans… let’s just say that’s a topic best left alone. The bright cheeriness of the Fiesta canvas over took my fear so I decided to give it a try.

Introducing my ¡Fiesta! collection

Last year at this time I was preparing to go on vacation to Mexico, leaving the cold Northwest for the sunny tropics of Playa del Carmen.  I had never been to Mexico but grew up in California and had always been exposed to the vibrant culture.  It instantly got my creative juices flowing; bright, fun images floating in my mind.  I absolutely love folk art and have always been drawn to Mexican folk art and embroidery in particular.  I wanted this ¡Fiesta! to be a fun, bright, vivid, cheery group that had folk art elements and that just made one smile when they saw it.
