Wiksten Top in the new Indigo Patchwork Fabric

I'm so excited to be writing this post for Connecting Threads! I work in the same building, just down the hall from all the sewing machines and fabric, but I generally stick to knitting and yarn as Catalog Director for Knit Picks. However, when my coworked Heidi walked through the office with a stack of fabric from the new Indigo Patchwork fabric collection, I did an almost cartoonish double take. All that blue in one place was irrisistable!

Japanese Lanterns

Japanese Lanterns is a design that waited a long time for the perfect collection. When I saw the Indigo Patchwork collection, I knew the time had come!

Peek A Boo Table Runner

I really love how the colors from the Mix It Up! Collection peek out (aptly named!) of the black background like little jewels.

Check out my latest collection: Mix It Up!

As I was developing the concept for Mix It Up! I knew I wanted to create a collection that encompassed two things specifically.  I wanted it to be gender neutral and I wanted it to be a stash builder collection.  I get many requests that I definitely keep in mind and many people ask for more “guy friendly” collections.  Mix It Up! offers so much.  With a myriad of plaids, stripes and geometric prints that incorporate practically every color from our Quilter’s Candy palette, the possibilities of this collection are endless.

We’ve learned how to shirr!

Sue, our amazing sewist and quilter, has a lot of tricks and tips up her sleeve. Recently, I saw her with a cute little dress in her hands and I asked her, "how did you sew that to create that elastic-shrinking effect?" and she said, "Oh you mean shirring. It's easy!" So she set up a little class with some of us quilters here at work, and taught us how to shirr. This is how it went:

Tufted Floor Pillow

The trend of floor pillows has been around for a while, and I have always wanted one.  Whether it be for me to lounge on or for my frenchie to rest his head on, I thought this was a really fun project to make and own.  In Patchwork Pillows by Lindsey Murray McClelland I chose the “Tufted Floor Pillow” by Carol Zentgraf to make.  I was drawn to the simplicity of design yet interesting details, plus..I’m a sucker for home décor that is tufted.

Ann’s Quilt Studio Remodel – Part 3

Today is Part 3 of my quilt studio redo. Part 1 and Part 2 talked about my plans to do a little redecorating and a lot of purging of fabric and quilting supplies with the end goal of a clutter-free sewing space with room for my new (used) HandiQuilter 16. This blog posting will show my progress and discuss lighting...

A tour of The Design Library print studio

A month ago I went to New York for vacation and just prior to me leaving I got a "touch base" email from a print studio we work with there. I let them know I would be in New York that following week and was encouraged to come see their offices. They're based out of upstate New York and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to fit it into my schedule. It took a little planning, but I got a few friends together and was able to make a road trip out of it.
