Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving

The Holiday Season is upon us!  It seems to start earlier every year, doesn’t it?  It’s easy to get carried away in the hustle and bustle, glossing over this very special day. Here at Connecting Threads, we want to take some time to really appreciate the meaning of Thanksgiving.
Growing up, my family always gathered on Thanksgiving.  We would sit around the table, sharing a wonderful meal, talking about the things for which we were thankful.  My Grammie would …

Yet again, my gifty galore project for this week is another project from Ayumi Takahashi’s Patchwork, Please! As I’ve said before, this book is full of wonderful projects. This time I chose the “Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Towels.” This being one of the first projects in the book, it quickly made its way onto my to-do list after the first time I flipped through. Bright colors + text + linen = I’m sold. Since the project was kitchen-oriented, I picked Nana’s Pantry as my collection of choice for this round. I love the vibrancy and versatility of this collection and found it fun to mix and match prints for the different letters.

The team here at CT have been making our Christmas wish lists for a couple of months now. If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably got more than a few items on your list for Santa this year. As quilters, we can always use more fabric, new thread colors, and handy books, but maybe this is the year we ask for some new and exciting tools, furniture and gadgets, too! The great thing about the Connecting Threads Wish List is that you don’t have to keep all of your most desired items a secret. Our site’s Wish List allows you to share those items with your friends and loved ones so easily! Worried about being too abrupt? Don’t! Sharing your wish list with them will make Christmas shopping MUCH easier. They’ll appreciate it, really!

Embroidered Pillowcase

As a young girl I purchased pre-printed pillowcases from a local five-n-dime store. The images were sweet, quaint, and creatively stimulating. The colors were beautiful and the embroidery threads luscious. I enjoyed creating such a project in this FREE Emboidered Pillowcase Pattern with a bit more of a modern flair, and designed it with a holiday theme. The design is so simple, it can be embroidered in a day! Try it, it’s free!

The results are in and we are pleased to announce that Virginia Odien has been selected as the winner in our 2013 Fabric Design Contest. Our voting process followed the same format that we use for our in-house focus groups. Each finalist’s collection was presented on a design board, and each panel member was given anonymous survey sheets to fill out. Each person who participated in the voting process provided feedback on each of the collections. Participants were asked to rate the collections based on their overall appeal, salability, marketability, and usability in quilting. Once they completed their survey sheets, they were placed into an envelope for no one else to see until voting was complete. Once the deadline for voting had been met, our Marketing Director – Alisha – tallied all of the survey sheets and presented the results to Connecting Threads Director, Teri Stillwell, and in-house Fabric Designer, Jenni Calo.

Simply Ho Ho Ho Table Runner

The second I saw the pattern for this runner by Me and My Sister Designs, I knew it must come home to live at my home.  I had been drooling (not literally–well, most of the time) over our Spring Terrace collection since Jenni first shared her artwork for it.  (Disclaimer: I bleed green and yellow; I have been a huge Oregon Ducks fan since birth).  I chose similar fabrics from our collection and used our Design Table feature to keep straight which fabric I was subbing for what.
