Summer Fun Giveaway

This contest is now closed. Thank you to everyone who participated. To find out who won, click here: WINNERS As we enter into August, many of us begin to feel the end of summer approaching. Starting in September, the kids go back to school, the weather starts to cool off, and the number of family vacations dwindle down. Because we here at Connecting Threads aren't quite ready for summer to be over, we are offering up a fun giveaway with some of our favorite bright and cheery items.

Hello everyone, my name is Kimberly Purdy, and my company Lilac Cottage Designs is a new independent designer with Connecting Threads.  The picture is of one of my designs, the Sleep Mat II.  It’s a blanket, mat, and pillow all in one.  It rolls up so that you can quickly take it with you for daycare or sleepovers.

Sew Many Things…

Hello my name is Sue and I have a sewing problem. I just don't have enough room to store everything! I've tried not keeping scraps – but that's just wrong – so I keep scraps. I've tried to use up my stash. The only problem is I keep buying more. I've tried not buying more fabric unless it was for the project I was working on at the time, but there's always the next project in my mind and when you see the perfect fabric, well, you know, no fabric left behind!

A day in the life of a CT Photo Shoot

I thought it would be really fun to give you a 'behind the scenes' peek to show you just how much fun it is working here at Connecting Threads.  As you know I am a Fabric Designer, but I'm also the Art Director for our photo shoots for the catalog and web images.  I develop the theme of the shoots, plan the locations, gather props and direct our photography department on angles and desired results.  Our photographers are awesome!  I work closely with Sarah & Amy, and we three work hard at creating really beautiful images for you to see!

The Paper Pieced Pin Cushion

I love the Needles and Notions book but couldn't decide what I wanted to make. I love paper piecing but in small amounts and I really didn't want to make a quilt or a wall hanging. I collect pincushions so I decided to make the pincushion block and frame it.

Isn't it oh-so cute?! What sort of crazy yo-yo ideas do you have to share? If you're new to the yo-yo world, click here to see our tutorial.

Maple Skies Farmers Market Tote

Aye Aye Captain!

Sometimes you just need to stare at something for a few weeks before you actually decide to work on it. I had a stack of Smooth Sailing fat quarters sitting on my desk at home. Quite a lovely stack just as it was, however it apparently wanted to be made into something. A few weeks ago I decided I was going to cut right into the fabrics and sew up a little something. The project was still undecided at that point, but I started prepping my workspace and racking my brain for a quick and easy idea to make with these beautiful nautical fabrics.

Pillow-to-Go Pillowcases

It began with Little Red…  This is Judy’s little comfort pillow and pillowcase she takes on-the-go and it originally came from her Mother-in-law, Bunny. So, here’s the story…  Judy brought Little Red into work to show us the clever pillowcase design the same day I found out I goofed on the Gifty project for this week.  I talked to Teri about my goof-up and before long Sue, Teri, Judy and I were quickly making disguised Little Reds!  Teri’s idea and Judy’s design turned into Sue’s pattern and then, my project for this week!  Hence, the birth of Pillow-to-Go Pillowcases!  Wahoo!Soon (and with Judy’s help), LOTS of people were making pillows.  Look at all of us!
