My Island Holiday Quilt

I love Rivera II and had so much fun designing with it that I created six different color ways of my Island Holiday Quilt!  The combinations of beautiful were endless!  Rarely do I choose two focals for a quilt, however, the focal; Paradise is especially stunning, brimming with detail and color.  It was very difficult to make a final choice.

Introducing Riviera II

You know the old adage you can never get enough of a good thing? Well in the case of Riviera, that is definitely true. I still have some of the original Riviera squirreled away (jealous?) and have been judiciously using it in small amounts in almost every scrap or applique project I do. When I heard that there was another Riviera collection in the making I admit I did a celebratory booty shake. Something about the colors and textures in these groups get my creative juices flowing. In the new Riviera collection, Riviera II, there are some new prints that have been added, as well as some old prints that we brought back in new colors.      There are some amazing projects out of this collection such as the Island Holiday Quilt, the Gaggle of Geese Lap Quilt, and the Russian Rubix Crib Quilt.

Great batik books – on sale now!

You may have noticed in our latest email that we have some great batik books on sale. In the past, we used to show you a few books that we enjoyed, but they didn't neccessarily coincide with the collection being featured in the email. Going forward, we have changed the way we do things a little bit. In every collection email, we will be featuring a book, or several books, that our staff has hand-selected as being great for the collection. We feel that this will create a more meaningful experience for you, and you can trust that the books you are buying are just right for your needs. This week's email features our new, limited edition summer batiks. *Swoon*. The books we selected for the email are a great mix of our staff's go-to batik resources. Even better, all of the books featured in this week's email are 40% off now through May 16th. The first book, Nature's Beauty in Applique, offers some incredible projects that were inspired by the author's stay in England. The table runners, placemats, and other fun projects use batik fabrics wonderfully, and really show off how batiks can make a project pop. Just look at this amazing wall hanging!

What CT Moms want for Mother’s Day

It's that time of year again when we all scramble to think of that perfect gift that tells Mom how much she is loved and appreciated. We have tried to simplify the process for you this year by polling our CT Moms and asking, "What do you really want this year for Mother's Day?" Hopefully their responses will help guide you in finding the perfect gift. If not, you can always just let her choose with a Connecting Threads gift card...the Mother's Day card is really cute!

New Summer Batiks

Some fabrics are designed to be showcased in a quilt, while other fabrics, like Batiks, are designed to showcase the quilt. With their intense color, shading, and variance, Batiks lend themselves to be blended and pieced into masterpiece quilts. We have several new kits to either start or feed your Batik addiction. Below are some of my favorite kits from our new summer Batiks! Storm at Sea Wall Hanging The Storm at Sea kit is a beautiful wall hanging that uses foundation piecing. The different shades of blue give the illusion that there is curved piecing, but not so. This little beauty has been one of our favorite projects here at Connecting Threads for years. Once you've put it all together, you will see why!

Connecting Threads’ Independent Designer Program

It’s become somewhat of a joke around here at the office.  When we are talking about projects for upcoming fabric lines, inevitably I will pipe up with "I’ve got an IDP (Independent Designer Pattern) for that!"  But as with most jokes, there is always a thread of truth.  You can find an independent designer's pattern for just about everything, and there are more and more patterns being added all the time so I suggest you check back often if you don't see one you need. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I thought I would show you some of the IDPs that you could get done in a weekend!  The nice thing about downloadable patterns is that the wait is minimal - only about an hour or less for most downloads to show up in your email - so make sure your email is correct.  Mom’s always appreciate a homemade gift made with love, so let me help get your wheels turning.  There are patterns for sewing moms, on-the-go moms, baking moms, techno moms and every other type of moms.  Here are just a few examples. For the moms who sew, you might want to make her an adorable Flower Pin Cushion by Sew Simple.
